Discover Apricotte with El País
Perhaps you have wondered who is behind Apricotte and how this dream, which is taking shape every day, began. Well, today all your questions will be answered.
On March 3, our founders Inmaculada López, Rubén Palma, and Cristina Castro met with María Porcel from El País at our offices in Carabanchel to tell you about the dream behind Apricotte. And since there's nothing more beautiful than family pride, here are some of our favorite moments.
According to the article itself, Apricotte was born out of necessity: "Cris had eye surgery and a month later she was crying in front of screens," says her partner and spouse. "She had symptoms:itchy eyes, dryness, headaches... She tried to justify it, but she realized that was what it was: symptoms of overexposure to blue light," says Palma. That was in 2016, and the couple discovered something called "computer glasses" in England, in what is the prehistory of their business and the sector. "So we decided to investigate, we were among the first in this world."
"What we wanted didn't exist. So we said, 'Let's invent it,'" Palma says of the adventure that began in late 2016. The fashion and design component quickly came into play. For them, it was essential to go beyond something functional. "Many people," recalls Cristina Castro, "told us that they had always had always wanted to wear glasses. It was just another accessory." They also knew they wanted quality, and they charmed sellers from all over the world, says Palma. "Many told us that it was incredible to be able to achieve such quality while manufacturing such small quantities, that it was impossible. 'But didn't anyone help you when you were starting out?' we would cry," she recalls, now laughing. "We avoided plastic and opted for organic resins, as well as acetate," explains the head of design.
The article also highlights the "neighborhood pride." "We are such a small company that we do everything with great care," say the three bosses humbly, who are also the three employees, although they have one person in logistics and another freelancer for R&D. But for now, everything is done from that little corner of Carabanchel. "Yes, yes, if we can, we'll stay here," the three say without hesitation and in unison: "We are proud of our neighborhood."
Perhaps you have read our blog before, perhaps you have purchased some of our glasses, or perhaps this is your first time visiting. But whatever your situation, we want to thank you for being part of and helping to grow this small but wonderful family. And remember WE HOPE YOU ARE W.E.L.
